War Clouds

War Clouds

Nations of the world,

Shudder in unison –

The dark clouds of war,

Bringing gloom to millions,

Loom high up in the sky.

They were a rugged people;

Ruffled rustics.

They flew the deserts on their steeds,

Survivors they were, and not a bit weak.

But the people of Iraq never knew,

The meaning of joy,

Not since the military coup.

Their leader was flawed,

Like all humans.

He led them to doom,

And they followed him still.

These braves knew not Valhalla,

Or of the great world crises.

But they would fight,

Fight for their honour and beliefs.

To ride into heaven,

As the children of a great jehad.

The West had no innocence left,

Only oil stained motives.

Invasion was their aim-

To cut the arteries of the East,

And quench their insatiable thirsts.

Their own people rose up,

Reared up in rebellion, but,

Hardheaded men understand not,

The signs of the future –

That are not to be ignored.

I had penned this for my college magazine. The war against terror was just starting then.
