A weekend wasted

Was caught up in work at office till around midnight on Christmas Eve. There was not a soul around except for the security guards and those who were watching the India - Sri Lanka cricket match on the television set in the cafeteria at the top floor. I had nothing to look forward to. I wasn't going home, thanks to the IRCTC website being mangled by the holiday traffic. And I wasn't going anywhere else either, thanks to the nearly empty bank account coupled with lousy foresight. The only good thing was that my room mate was around. His first Christmas away from family. Because he could not find train tickets, and because he was denied leave thanks to the resignation notice period rules from Cognizant. It was mostly a rum weekend. One of those wasted weekends when you get sick of the spirit itself. When you swear that you will not touch it again. Knowing full when that you would be back to your old ways when the bile subsides. And on top of that a heavy dose of motion pictures, on line streaming videos and Murakami's musical references.

Some of the songs which I must remember from this weekend are -

  • The girl from Ipanema - Astrud Gilberto
  • Norwegian Wood - The Beatles
  • I am the Walrus - The Beatles
  • Say good-bye to love - Kenna
  • Toca's Miracle - Fragma
  • Angie - Rolling Stones
  • Danny Boy - Bing Crosby
  • Secret Agent Man - Johnny Rivers

I think I am over exerting my weak, dazed and hazy memory. What are the movies which I watched over the last weekend of the year 2009?
  • A Fish called Wanda
  • Roman Holiday
  • Jabberwocky
  • Where the Wild Things Are
  • Planet 51
  • Law Abiding Citizen
  • Surrogates
  • The Blind Side
  • Who's afraid of Virginia Woolf?
My mind's been corporatized. I am using bullet points everywhere. Talking of which, the Enfield Bullet entered Vijay Auto Clinic today for an open heart surgery, which should set me back by around fifteen big ones the coming year. What a beautiful start to the year 2010.

Birthday, Death & Birth

It was my team mate's birthday today. We had made plans for a small celebration in the evening. The cake was scheduled to arrive by afternoon.

The news of another team mate's mother having passed away reached us by afternoon. We put off the celebrations. I had last seen his mother in an ICU a few months back. I had to go see him.

While I was at the house of the deceased, I received a text message which informed me that an old friend of mine had become a father today.
