Sounds of Life

Music is a strange thing. It can make or break your mood at times. I have had situations where one had to grow up fast, to survive in one piece, mentally. During that spell there was a song which I listened to. It was put on repeat play. It was etched in my mind after two days of listening continuously to it. I hadn't slept for two or three or days in a row, having very little food and was delirious at some points. I was sitting like a zombie in front of the computer listening to "Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor. Emotions of all kinds were running wild through my nervous pathways. In short, I was at war with myself. A stupid thing to do. The ability of my brain to logically evaluate the situation was lost somewhere in this madness. A mad man dancing with his demons, contemplating absurd situations of natures, as diverse and colourful as his imagination was permitting him to. Throbbing in the background was the song "Eye of the Tiger", which was incidentally the soundtrack of the movie Rocky III. I like to think that that song was somehow keeping me rooted in sanity, and helping me survive. Looking back at it, the things I'd done were abysmally stupid, and I wish that I could have handled it better. Past's past and there's no looking back, other than to register these experiences and keep them locked in the vault of experiences in the mind, for future reference or, for use as precedents. The lyrics of the song make little sense, but they are precious to me, as long as my memories remain in my mind.

Rocky III Soundtrack Lyrics
Song : Eye of the Tiger
Artist : Survivor

Risin up
back on the street
did my time took my chances
went the distance now I'm back on my feet
just a man and his will to survive
so many times
it happens too fast
you trade your passion for glory
don't lose your grip on the dreams of the past
you must fight just to keep them alive

It's the eye of the tiger
its the cream of the fight
risin up to the challenge of our rivals
and the last known survivor stalks his prey in the night
and he's watching us all with the eye of the tiger

Face to face
out in the heat
hanging tough
stayin hungry
the stack the odds still we take to the street
for the kill with the skill to survive...

It's the eye of the tiger
its the cream of the fight
risin up to the challenge of our rivals
and the last known survivor stalks his prey in the night
and he's watching us all with the eye of the tiger

Risin up
straight to the top
had the guts got the glory
went the distance now I'm not gonna stop
just a man and his will to survive

It's the eye of the tiger
its the cream of the fight
risin up to the challenge of our rivals
and the last known survivor stalks his prey in the night
and he's watching us all with the eye of the tiger

The eye of the tiger......
The eye of the tiger......
The eye of the tiger......

That song was actually selected as one of the worst ever number 1 song by VH1. I like it a lot though. Sometimes the big scribes can't understand what a song means. A favourite of mine: Yes-Owner of a lonely heart was also in that list...

music really is strange, and memories associated with a certain piece of music do become a part of that music itself. but sometimes the memories are painful..and at such times you just wanna get rid of them...

Why do we do what we do? : by our choice
Do we exist? : because our mind wishes to exist
Or are we part of a gargantuan dream? : If you call our mind a maya, then, yes , we are.
Why do we seek answers? : We do know answers, but it is our mind which overcasts the true consciousness, and we forget that we know it, and try seeking what we already know from outside instead of looking in.
Why are we never satisfied with those answers? : because the source of answers is wrong, look inside>>

true. absolutely true...
i have felt the same.

are you sure about these answers..
we never become satisfied with answers. we seek proof, at times. sometimes, just to disprove other hypotheses. inquisitiveness thrives in us. looking within is all that we can do, as you have pointed out. :)

@ keshi -
it does! it defnitely has the capacituy to affect moods.

oh yeah...i guess u were in ur mother's tummy when this song went to the top 10 of the MTV.

If you'll know answers, you would not ask for proofs, and which, by itself, is "the" proof!
that is my understanding..

it is funny to see how others view that song. in america, it was huge when it came out and now it is thought of as cheesy. it is nice to hear that people from other countries are listening to our music. i thought the world hated us. :)
namaste
