Harry Belafonte is a man of many dimensions. His music is what attachés me to him. I love his old Caribbean style music. He is called the King of the Calypso. A great man.
Some of you might have heard of a song named Malaika, once sung by Belafonte. Many have sung this song, and many times. I will copy-paste here what I found in Wiki…
“Malaika, which is Swahili for "angel", akin to the Arabic word for angels "Malaika", was a song composed by Fadhili William in 1960, and was originally recorded by 'The Jambo Boys'. It was later re-recorded at Equator Sound Studios (see Equator Records) by the British-born Kenyan music promoter Charles Worrod, who marketed the ballad to eventually becoming an internationally acclaimed song. The song went on to be popularised by international artists such as Helmut Lottie, Rocco Granata, Miriam Makeba, Harry Belafonte, and Boney M.”
I belong to a state named Kerala, in India. The language that I speak is Malayalam. The funny thing I found was that “Malaakha” in Malayalam also means an angel.
A connection between Swahili, Arabic and Malayalam forms before us now. Is this because of information broadcast by angels to the creators of languages(kickassso had pointed out this possibility). Or maybe there were aliens, or long extinct/hidden beings who were worshipped as Malaikas. Or maybe that man kind did really evolve from a single ancestor.

Swahili is a lot like Malayalam. The great malayalam writer SK Pottekkad himself experienced this first hand during his travels to east africa
sometimes we come across these cool coincidences....but then again, they might not be coincidences at all!! :)
Ah! Belafonte... Such nostalgia is not good at this time of the year when i'm working 52 hour days

Hey!! hmmm im surprised! didn't expect to find many people who liked harry belafonte (cos he's not very talked abt obviously!) His music is just wonderful!!! I love his songs especially Kingston town (The slower jamiaca farewell version), Jump in the line, Hava nagila, Banana boat song, and Malaika of course! He takes the listener to a totally different surrounding..! Escapist so to say... Nice to know about the parallelism too :))
