Handling terror

This is about the Mumbai train blasts which took place on the 11th of July. Travel Tales from India prompted this response about the heinous act, and the media responded to it.

The terrorists struck Mumbai with a vengeance. Many lives were taken, and many more are left completetely shattered. Don't the terrorists realize that they are actually digging their own grave with this? What do these bastards gain from destroying the lives of innocents?

The media coverage of the terrorist attack and its aftermath was crass, to say the least. I had watched the news channels for a long time, getting number, seeing the same gruesome images being aired over and over again. The media has lost its control, and its humanity.

They are simply cashing in on the tragedy. They have scant respect for the victims, the dead, and the bereaved. I concede that they seem to be doing a fine job in airing messages for locating missing persons. Other than that, the media seems to have lost insight, and sensitivity. I strongly feel that they should have covered the incident differently.

One channel's correspondent was lulling over mundane aspects of the event so casually that its parent channel(which was airing feed from the Indian network), suddenly cut short the telecast and moved on to discussion about the blasts, rather than having people over the globe watch gore being deified, over and over again.

Terrorists have gained little from this brutal assault on the people. This attack has made them lose their last strands of credibility, if any. Their real aim could be to provoke communal riots. They haven't succeeded this time. I hope that they won't be able to instigate riots which will break the spirit of secularism.
