Long long time ago...

February 3rd, 1959 - Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and Giles Perry (The Big Bopper) Richardson, Jr., in a plane crash in 1959.(wikipedia)
Some people called it, the day the music died.

October 1971 - Don McLean releases his hit single - American Pie, with references to the day the music died, and other cryptic subtleties, commemorating Buddy Holly.
When asked what "American Pie" meant, McLean replied, "It means I never have to work again." (wikipedia)

I have listened to this particular song on numerous occasions - sad, happy, despondent, ebullient, on the death bed, et al. I guess I'll have to live with this evergreen tune buzzing in my head at random moments of escape from being tone deaf!
